Modified Creativity

April 20, 2009

My frenemy, El Jefe wrote a post (April 7, 2009 at 10:44 am) titled “company of thieves”.

This is my rejoinder.

This video that he posted is great.

However, they deliberately stole the idea from the movie Rushmore.

Lately I have been noticing humans (who put themselves in the artist category) directly ripping off former artists. I was disgusted by this idea of art until I learned something vital in my Management 3000 class taught by Tim Waid.  There are three different types of creativity. Whoa, what?! Three? Are you sure?

Question #31 Explain the types of creativity.

a.   Creation: the act of making something out of nothing

b.   Synthesis: the act of relating two or more previously unrelated phenomena

c.   Modification: the act of altering something that already exists so that it can:

                                      i.       Perform its function better

                                    ii.       Perform a new function

iii.       Perform in a different setting

iv.       Be used by someone new

This challenges my thinking.
