It is so wonderful to see Daft Punk still making fantastic music.

Music Video Eye Candy

August 4, 2010

he new Jo*nsi video just released, “Animal Arithmetic”. It’s about to hit the fan because everyone loves the Jo*nsi. I sure can’t resist him, trust me when I say I’ve tried… At least this time we can all understand what he is saying (for the most part).

*I tried making accent mark over the ‘o’ but WordPress wanted nothing to do with it.

I Heart New York City

August 3, 2010

am about to polish off my last four days in New York City. When I go back to Columbia there will be no recording artists and managers, no explorations of fabulous food, no club openings and definitely no VIP. I will survive without these things, but they will be missed greatly.

I thought I would post the articles that I wrote for BlackBook Magazine since most of the content is music.

ree Downloads:

Owen Pallett EP, Lewis Takes Off His Shirt.

Another Free Music Monday.

I am obviously in the sharing mood, so here are some bands that I have been listening to lately (I left the well-known bands out of this list):

Soft Cat

Maximum Balloon

Kelis My brother showed me this rad video, her whole album is inspired by her new baby boy and I totally dig the huskies (dream dog).

Goldfrapp Loved her forever and it seems from her new album that I always will.

The Glitch Mob

White Belt Yellow Tag They need to smooth out their sound but they are decent.

Magic Bullets Don’t worry, they don’t sing about the Magic Bullet

Turin Brakes

Ghostface Killah

Sparrow & The Workshop Present day Peter, Paul and Mary? I think so.

What Laura Says

Butterbox

Timber Timbre Pretty mainstream now, so beautiful.

Lissie She cover Kid Cudi, she has to be cool.

!!! Free mp3 download.

Die Antwoord Transcribed an interview with them, fascinating (but dirty) band from South Africa.

Freelance Whales

The Do

t work I get “paid” in free promo music, these are the bands that aren’t worth checking out (don’t deserve a link):

Black Francis

MC Frontalot

Job Garcia- cool cover art, crappy music.

Alrighty then, sorry if that was overwhelming. That is just a fraction of how I feel every day. So many wonderful musicians, and that doesn’t even include beneficial podcasts! Let me know of some of your new favorites.

Another Free Concert Weekend in NYC

July 14, 2010

very Saturday from July 17th through September 11th there will be free music, beer and a slip-N-slide. Could you ask for anything else? Maybe if you lived in the Upper East Side, but luckily the Jelly concerts are in Brooklyn.

The 10th Annual Siren Music Festival is happening from noon to 9 p.m. this Saturday at Coney Island. My plan is to post-up at the beach and the stages whenever I feel inclined. Anyone want to join?

Here is the fantastic line up:

Legal Free Music

July 8, 2010

Through the years of surfing the inter-web I have found many treasured finds. Here are a handful that I would like to share:

  • Urban Outfitters gives out free music all the time, via Music Mondays and LSTN Playlists. Follow their blog to get in on the free goodies. I always use their playlists when I don’t have one of my own set up and they are a hit.
  • My brother showed me this amazing African Swim free download, and then I found that you can also download Ghostly Swim, 8 promo singles and ATL AMX. These are real gems.

  • Also Starbucks gives away music constantly on their “Song of the Day” cards.
  • In fact iTunes gives away free music daily, all you have to do is scroll all the way down to the bottom of the iTunes homepage and download your free music. The Discovery Downloads are a real treasure because they usually put songs that will become popular in a few months.
  • Of course there is always the trusty NPR, they sporadically have free downloads but the best one is the free SXSW sampler. I live for that every year.

Truly the best way to find fantastic and free music is to follow music blogs… I’ll let you find those on your own. 😉

I’ll Clap to That

July 8, 2010

I’ve began to have great appreciation for the popular company known as Converse. Not be because I own a pair of their shoes (they make my feet look like boats), but because they appreciate good music. On the Fourth of July I did not see one single firework. I did however have Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward serenade me for the price of $0. That day I gave thanks to Converse through multiple cheer sessions while getting a tan. Today I admire them for their ability to bring artists together to write a summer jamtastic song.

Last year was a compilation by Pharrell, Julian Casablancas and Santogold. They came up with “My Drive Thru.”

This year Kid Cudi, Rostam Batmanglij and Bethany Cosentino put together a song called “All Summer.”

I had the pleasure of interviewing Bethany Cosentino for BlackBook Magazine. She was pure California and I guarantee that her new album will be a hit. I know because I have it, but it doesn’t come out until July 27 so you will have to dip your toes into the sand while you are waiting.

That’s! Telekinesis! Kyle!

July 7, 2010

A band from Seattle Washington called Telekinesis! is signed with Merge Records. They are a bit dry and a little too common but delightful nonetheless. The interesting aspect of this band is that they have a British sound but are from Queen Rainy City.

This blog title was inspired by Wonderboy, a Tenacious D song. Specifically listen in at 1:47 (KG=Kyle).

I may or may not have the whole raunchy but fantastic Tenacious D album memorized. Whoops!
